Stoneless World Survival--Linda

Postby lindawing » October 18th, 2014, 7:02 am

Carrie gave me a link to another (bit older) challenge map called Stoneless Survival. The creator has made some really nice features, with some not-too-hard challenges. The really hard thing is that there is no stone in this world at all. Not only that, but it's not that there's just not any stone, but in all the places where stone MIGHT have been, there is just...SPACE! When you come to a place where a cave system might have been, you can look down through layers and layers and layers of wonderful resources that you REALLY want to get to and use, but...oh my! There's a lot of space with lava all around, and then, of course, there's the void (though I believe there's bedrock down there...that's not stone). Still...SCARY STUFF!

The challenges are:

Build a safe shelter. (check)
Get geared up for exploration (armor and weapons) (working on it)
Build a cobblestone generator. (check)
Own a full diamond armor set and tools.
Find and search for valuable items in all the landmarks: The Ulren Asir Village, The Jungle Temple of Cybele; The Desert Temple of Hakizimana; The Trleborg Fortress; The Witch's Hut; The Overgrown Ruins of Kilgore; The Cranmore Mountain Resort; Captain Morgan's Ship; The Maze of the Dark Chamber; and the Baraz Stronghold. (I've done the village--it's where I'm living--and the ship, and am in the middle of looting everything--including the moss stone--from the jungle temple.)
Make a wheat, melon, and pumpkin farm.
Make a potato, carrot, cocoa bean, and sugar cane plantation. (These last two would be, I'm supposing, in ADDITION to the farms that are already in place in the village.)
Herd at least 2 cows, 2 pigs, 2 chickens, and 2 cheep.
Make the two types of giant mushrooms (red and brown), and a netherwart farm.
Create an enchantment table and a brewing stand (might as well make an anvil, too--my own note).
Enchant an item and brew a potion of your choice (and repair and/or name something--my own note).
Protect the villagers of Ulren Asir Village with Iron Golems (I've made sure they're protected, otherwise, and my home is there--in the beautifully-built brick forge).
Protect the Treleborg Fortress with Snow Golems.
Craft at least one of every type of wool.

So...nothing really hard...except that somehow I have to get down to the layers where there (first) iron, and then second) diamonds! Yikes! Everything else gathered along the way, under the dirt, gravel, and sand, is gravy, to be sure!

Here are some pictures of my game that I've been playing tonight.

Absolutely! No problems, whatsever. I also don't see any evidence, anywhere of there being the other types of stone (other than the moss stone with which he build the jungle temple). I think when he told his editor to not generate stone, that carried right on through to any type of stone. :uhhuh:

There is, actually, just a small bit of lag when I'm close to a large gaping hole underneath me somewhere. I can feel that, but other than that, everything is working fine.

I realized with horror at one point tonight, that some of the gravel pathway had collapsed in the village. The villagers and I had been running around there since the beginning, with no problems. Suddenly, though, five of the villagers were stuck in a hole in the gravel. I tried to get them out, and three of them came out of the hole. The other two (including one of the several clerics and the only librarian) walked off the ledge that was slightly below the road, to their inevitable death. Sigh!

So--having all the moss stone from the jungle temple was quite helpful, as I embarked on a tour of the entire road system--replacing all the gravel with moss stone. I also began adding a BUNCH more doors (like 30 of them, I think) to the village, so that the villagers could start reproducing and they could make their own golems. No golems have shown up yet, but there are several new babies now (about half a dozen). Red hearts are springing up all over town, and my Sims are quite content. The librarian has already been replaced...he was the first one to be born. :uhhuh:

Hooray! I'm so glad it's working. Such a shame about losing those villagers though. :ohno: It's great that the village is expanding now. Great pics!

Today I was teleporting back to the stronghold, and hit a wrong number for the Y. I landed down on the bedrock. That was fun! I went around and got all sorts of stuff while I was down there...in peaceful...after I got killed by three monsters at once.

I forgot to mention earlier that when I opened the world this afternoon, to show Ethan and Harry, there were two golems in the village! Woot! We also got to see one of the golems carrying around a bouquet of red flowers, trying to give them away to one of the little ones (who gave him the, "I see a stranger!" treatment as they will do until the golems try several times. It was so cute!

We had to rescue one of the golems out of one of the gardens (behind one of the butcher shops, where animals SHOULD actually be penned in) When he spawned, he must have spawned under the roof overhang, which is only 2 blocks high. He went out into the other part of the garden, but he couldn't get out of the dirt. We got him out. :uhhuh:

Later in the afternoon, I played Enlarged Grass Block with Ethan for a little while, then when they left, I put in a fresh copy and am trying that again. I don't think animals will spawn, though. They did when we did it before, but that was back in 1.6.4, so (like Sky Block) they probably won't spawn in 1.8...darn it!

That's so cool that you could show Ethan and Harry! I love that our kids/grandkids like playing the same games we do. :joy:

I bet that was cute with the golem! I'm glad you could rescue the one in the garden. :-)
