March 27--The 1964 Alaska Earthquake Anniversary

Postby lindawing » March 28th, 2016, 5:32 am

It's been 52 years since the huge 9.2 earthquake that shook Alaska back in 1964. I am a survivor of that quake. I was asked several months back, to share my story about how our family survived, in Valdez. We lived two miles outside of Old Valdez, and our story is a little different than those who survived in town.

Not everyone did survive. We lost 32 people--30 known dead, and 2 who were gone without a trace. That was from a town of probably just under 1000 people at the time.

One of the villages lost 23 people--out of a total of 68. We were devastated, but, wow! That would be so very, very awful!

Anyway...my story is really too long to just copy and paste here, so I'm attaching it as an .rtf file. I could also make it into a .pdf file if anyone would like to have it.
