Terraria

Postby psychedelicsim » February 11th, 2014, 1:06 pm

A couple of us play a game called Terraria. My sons totally love it! I also have a multiplayer server set up. Below are some of my game play screenshots. Please share yours here too!

Watch this space for new gameplay screenshots! Ethan and Lucas have been showing me how to play Terraria. I had no idea so much could be done in that game! We've been playing a LAN world and have just defeated our first major boss. :yeah:

I think Alex has played this...do you have to dig down and can you build houses and stuff?

Yes! You have to dig down to mine and find caves. I've built my first house out of wood, but it's above ground. You also craft weapons, armor, accessories, etc. and fight zombies, slime and larger bosses. There are also different classes that you can get later on like mage, ranger, etc. The more bosses you beat, the more cool stuff you get. ;-)

Cool! Alex's gaming attention span is not long, apart from the old favourite WoW...but I do get to see a LOT of games through him :rotfl:

;-)

We installed a mod yesterday that adds lots of cool goodies to the game! Ethan is so good at playing Terraria. He breezes through it and comes out of it with some great stuff! We installed it on Travis' computer too. The multiplayer LAN worlds are really easy to start up, so Ethan can't wait to show him around the game. :joy:

I had to end up uninstalling the mod from my computer. It ran on version 1.1.2 of Terraria, which worked perfectly. However, the latest version of my game (1.2.4.1) would no longer run properly. It was giving me graphics card errors. The game launcher that you download gives you the option to run the modded version of the game or the regular, unmodded version. I'm not sure what happened, because it was working OK the other day. Anyway, I backed up everything, then reinstalled without the mod in place. Everything is working fine and I've gotten all of my characters and worlds back. ;-) Thankfully, everything is still working correctly for Ethan and Lucas with the mod still in place. :uhhuh:

Silly me forgot that I needed to use Fraps for taking screenshots, so none of the ones I thought I had taken were saved anywhere. I'll have to see if there is a better way to take them. :yeah:

Linda, I'm still looking for a way for you to play it without Steam. So far, playing with Steam offline seems to be the only option. I think that would be OK, because it shouldn't use any extra internet resources, but I'll make sure.

I wonder why they did the screenshots thing that way! Too bad about the mod. :-(

I wonder who invented steam, and why they made it so proprietarial. :uhuh:

Evidently, there is an update coming out that adds loads of new stuff, including space where you can have your own planet. Fingers crossed they add something new for screenshots then. However, I could just be doing it wrong. :evillaugh:

Steam... :wow:

Oh, nice!

I found these about screenshots:

"F11 to turn off GUI/HUD and then F12 (assuming you play a bought terraria game, off steam) to capture a screenshot, the screenshots will then be uploaded (by your choice) onto steam AFTER you close the Terraria client. You can then go and link the screenshot by pressing the Tree image on the top of the posting thing and linking it to the raw URL of your image."

"Another way to get a screen shot although You will have to do some cropping is put your game into windowed (this can be achieved in game by clicking Alt+Enter, or is it Ctrl+Enter not sure lol one of those two combos will window your game) then click the Print Screen button, and open a photo editing program (paint works) and paste."

Also, I think what we talked about before, is that you can use Irfanview to do your screenshots.

The other thing I just thought of is to use the Snipping Tool, if it's in Windows 8. You can set it to do client windows, then you can use the COPY button and paste it into any graphics application.

I just saw this, too (for Windows 64-bit, steam users):

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\10282535\760\remote\105600\screenshots

The numbers would be different for you, evidently, but the rest should be the same.
