You just need to move somewhere with fast, unrestricted internet access sometime within the next three months or so... :yeah:

I noticed when I logged in that they dropped the EverQuest Next part of the name. During the beta intro video (which played smoothly for me, whereas the alpha one skipped and broke up like mad) the lead dev said that closed beta would last longer than alpha did, and alpha ran for two months. He also said it'd last "as long as it takes". No rush jobs like EA here. ;-) He also mentioned the main focus of alpha was getting core systems and stability and servers and such worked out, and now that the game is in beta there'd be a lot of new systems and such being added rapidly.

I also noticed they added a bunch of new stuff between my last alpha login this weekend and the beta today. There's now a mailbox at the portal hub, and a woodcrafting table, and some new crafting stations available to be made from the portal crafting stations. There's also a chest there that I clicked on that told me it was for replacing missing Founder's pack items. They had a lot of issues with that in alpha, the result being I ended up with 2-3 sets of everything, which was nice for some things like getting duplicates crafting and harvesting bonus bracelets and triple extra inventory slots. I was basically spoiled rotten lol. (The reason I had 2-3 was because they pushed out three sets because they just wanted to get the people who were missing theirs to them and weren't worrying about proper allotments so much. I got the 2-3 partial because the third rollout exceeded my available inventory space, so I lost some of the items that time around.) Claim flags are also now crafted instead of given out one per person automatically.

My first glimpses of one of the two new biomes: (yes I'm boring and tried to recreate my char as closely as I could remember to her original appearance)

Map view, which is why I think this biome may include some snow:

Land I was about to claim (didn't quite end up where I was thinking it would when I placed the claim flag):

There's a claimable spot nearby atm if you wanted to try to get it, Carrie:

That all looks so cool! Is it OK for you to be sharing these photos? I thought the closed beta thing meant you couldn't share yet. Does it just mean it's only by invitation?

Unless they changed something that I missed, Linda, they said they completely lifted the NDA back within a day or two when alpha started. They told us to knock ourselves out sharing anything we wanted back then.

So the game started with an NDA, but they got rid of it very quickly because they wanted to be completely open with development. Same when they started the forums with most of them locked, but then made the entire thing open to the public for reading.

Oh, good! I knew they had done that for the alpha, but I was thinking they didn't mean to continue it for the beta. Good for them!!! :joy:

I honestly had just assumed they did. :uhhuh: It wouldn't make much sense, to me, to open the floodgates wide, and then suddenly slam them shut all of a sudden.

Being around EA too long will do that to a person. :yeah:

Beh... I had so much homework last week that I completely forgot claims need maintenance paid now, so I lost my claim. =(

Ugh... and even though the in-game mailing indicates my claim only poofed two days ago, I see my spot has already been taken by other people. =(

Oh dear! That doesn't seem really efficient for online play! Many people never play enough to keep up with that kind of thing!

New contest:

Wish Chicken was in the game... he could totally ace this, I think. ;-) And I could build the base, like they suggested us non-creative builders do to contribute lol.
